Marshfields School receives Planning Approval Wednesday, 18 March, 2020
Hamson Barron Smith is pleased to announce that planning approval has been granted for new facilities at Marshfields School in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough. Our multi-disciplinary team led by the London studio, worked closely with the local authority and the school to realise an increase of occupational, sensory and physio-therapy provision for the 174 SEND students. A single storey new studio building faced in brickwork with feature details has been conceived as a flexible multi-use space for classroom teaching, a sports hub and dance studio. The proposals have been sited to create a new external courtyard space and improved outdoor learning and sports provision. Sustainability is at the forefront of the design strategy by provision of an efficient ‘fabric first’ highly insulated building envelope, an air source heat pump, hybrid ventilation units and low energy lighting systems to limit running costs and support the desire for a calm internal environment. The refurbishment proposals include new changing rooms, new science classrooms, new toilet provision, a further classroom for dedicated small group teaching and office space for staff.
Headteacher, Jude Macdonald stated –
“Our architects, Hamson Barron Smith, have done an outstanding job on the design of the building, incorporating everything needed to provide a truly multi-use space that allows us to use it as needed, especially as the school continues to grow.”
The scheme has also been tendered under a design and build procurement route on budget with works proposed to commence in July 2020 and completed in spring 2021.
