Planning Application approval received for Roundhay Sports Pavilion Wednesday, 18 March, 2020

Hamson Barron Smith worked in close collaboration with NPS Leeds to deliver this exciting proposal for a new sports pavilion in the heart of the 700 acre Roundhay Park in Leeds, one of the biggest city parks in Europe.  The new pavilion, built to the design requirements of the Football Foundation and Sport England, will directly overlook existing playing pitches. In devising the siting and scale of the building, particular care has been taken to respect the unique setting of the local Conservation Area.  The sculptural building form, including a top lit ventilation chimney, is to be clad in a restrained palette of robust materials with flashes of colour that reflect the branding of ‘Friends of Roundhay Park’.  The landscape strategy informed the building location surrounded by existing mature trees and includes a cast concrete sloped seating edge detail which provides protection to the building edge and allows visitors expansive vistas over the playing pitches.

The scheme has also been tendered under a design and build procurement route with works proposed to complete in 2020.
