Refurbishment of Peterborough Town Hall Monday, 28 June, 2021

The construction phase of a new transformative primary and mental care centre in Peterborough Town Hall North Wing has been delivered by Hamson Barron Smith’s London Architectural studio working for R.G Carter. The refurbished spaces are underpinned by a design approach that has maximised natural light and significantly reduced carbon emissions. Accessibility has been significantly improved through a carefully inserted new extension that contrasts with the historic fabric. The legible wayfinding and material strategy has created a calm internal environment with key views enhanced to Peterborough’s famous cathedral. The project has been well received by the CPFT staff, the NHS and Peterborough City Council as an exemplar model of integrated care supporting the regeneration of Peterborough Town Hall and the city centre.

Rob Gosnell, Contracts Manager for R.G Carter states:

“The refurbishment of the North Wing at Peterborough Town Hall was a logistical and technical challenge but a project R G Carter very much enjoyed working collaboratively with Hamson Barron Smith. Whilst site visits were restricted by COVID-19, the HBS architectural team rose to the challenge, not only developing a great looking functional facility for the NHS to occupy but also ensuring we were compliant with both the Heath Technical Memoranda (HTM) and Building Regulations. I would personally like to thank both Mark Lomas and Vivian Goncalves for all their hard work and dedication on this project and look forward to working with them again in the future. ”
