Hamson Barron Smith were commissioned in 2017 to carry out a detailed condition survey of both the British Legion building and the adjoining Guildhall for the purpose of producing a 5 year maintenance plan. We were subsequently appointed to specify and manage phase 1 works comprising external repairs to the grade II listed British Legion building situated on a busy town centre site.

Repairs included partial re-roofing and rainwater goods, masonry clean, brickwork replacement and repointing, stone repairs, joinery replacement and external redecoration. Listed building consent was obtained prior to commencement of works and we continued to liaise with the Conservation Officer regarding stone inscription details and final colours for doors and windows.

Works were competitively tendered and were carefully sequenced and planned with the contractor to minimise disruption to the building occupiers and ensure the safety of members of the public using the market place and pavements around the building. Works finished on programme and within the contract sum.
