The project involved the complete refurbishment of two inpatient acute admission wards (Boughton and Chartwell Wards), which provide secure accommodation for patients in periods of acute psychiatric lives. The refurbishment works were undertaken while the building remained fully operational, with the patients temporarily decanted from the wards which were being refurbished one at a time. MEP services to the rest of the building were maintained while the wards were refurbished.

HBS were employed by Kier to undertaken the MEP services design for each ward. Kier were engaged under the Scape Framework.

The refurbishment includes renewal of heating system, mechanical ventilation, water services, drainage, lighting, power, IT data, security and nurse call & access control systems. The refurbished wards meet anti-ligature and HBN requirements.
