Works started at Heltwate SEN School Friday, 30 September, 2022

Works are progressing well at Heltwate SEN School in Peterborough on behalf of Peterborough City Council where a new £5m Early Years SEN Building is being constructed by R G Carter (Cambridge) Ltd. The project will see the creation of 5no. Classrooms with linked Accessible Hygiene Rooms and a Hall to accommodate 40no. SEN pupils.

The project commenced with an early-stage options appraisal undertaken for development of Heltwate School, this led to acquisition of the development site managed by NPS Peterborough Ltd. Hamson Barron Smith have provided Employer’s Agent, Quantity Surveying and full multi-discipline Design Team services for the project from inception through to completion working closely with Peterborough City Council and the school.

Works commenced in February 2022 with the demolition of the former Silver Jubilee Pub which had been derelict for a number of years and subject to a number of arson attacks, drug use and fly-tipping. R G Carter are currently progressing with roofing works, SFS installation and internal walling works with building services installations due to commence imminently.

The project is due to complete in late March 2023 with a topping-out ceremony due to be held in early November with members of Peterborough City Council in attendance to celebrate the development of the ‘Heltwate Jubilee Building’. It is hoped that the new school development will revitalise the local area and provide much needed space to suit the changing needs of SEN pupils at the school.
