Completion of Cricket Green School Expansion Thursday, 13 August, 2020

Hamson Barron Smith are pleased to announce the completion of the expansion of Cricket Green School in the London Borough of Merton. Our multi-disciplinary team led by Associate Architect Katarzyna Kwiatek created a new masterplan for the site in close consultation with the client and school that respects their community focus, ethos and values. A new energy efficient two storey arts and crafts faculty building with classrooms on the first floor has been carefully positioned to maximise natural light and avoid solar gain. The project also includes the refurbishment and extension of two existing buildings to accommodate a larger, multi-use hall and a new visitor entrance and administration base. The landscape strategy to enhance this Ofsted outstanding special school campus site unified external play areas, provided a new secure line and rationalised car parking. The design respects the archaeological heritage and the character of Cricket Green Conservation Area, whilst at the same time providing pupils with modern learning environment that caters for diverse and a wide range of special needs.

“We are so thrilled to be fortunate enough to have our new building, named The Phoenix building, at Cricket Green School. At last, we feel we have a school building that matches our outstanding provision. The building combines a modern design, with function and purpose. It is light, spacious and has a feeling of intent and ambition. Our pupils are now able to learn in a school with added value and which celebrates their potential achievements. One of our pupils said.” The Phoenix building means pupils at CGS have a bright future. The sky is the limit!”
